Subjects covered: Designing with Nature and Natural Patterns, Water Storage and Aquaculture, Cultivated Ecologies, Plant Associations and Trees in Nature, Living Soil, World Climates and Landscapes. Economic and Social (Invisible) Structures, Team Design Project and Presentations., This course will be taught by Toby Hemenway, Joe Leitch, Pam Leitch and local guest instructors.
Toby Hemenway is the author of the first major book on permaculture for North America, Gaia's Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture. He consults on many aspects of ecological design, and teaches permaculture throughout the country and other locations, including The Bahamas. Two Week Intensive Design Course
NOT CURRENTLY SCHEDULED
This course will be taught by Geoff & Nadia Lawton and will offer a world wide perspective on permaculture. Geoff is one of the few permaculture teachers that still teaches with Bill Mollison. Geoff’s primary teaching method is storytelling in the Bill Mollison style. This 72-hour certificate program is a 13-day intensive design course with a break in the middle and a celebration the last night. This course is for the person new to permaculture as well for those that have already taken the West Coast version of the design course and are looking for new perspective at permaculture. Participants should expect to spend the evenings of the second week working on their design projects.

the Instructors
Geoff
Geoff Lawton is the Director of the Permaculture Research Institute in Australia, assuming the position from Permaculture founder Bill Mollison. Geoff has worked for communities, governments, aid organizations, non-government organizations and multi-national companies. During this course Geoff will share selected examples of his Permaculture projects from clients in 17 different countries, including Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, USA, Mexico, Macedonia, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, England, Denmark, Australia and the South Pacific. Nadia Abu Yahia (Lawton) was born in the Dead Sea Valley in Jordan. She learned traditional ways of land use from her father, an expert farmer and herbal healer of Palestinian, Bedouin descent. She later went on to complete her Permaculture diploma in design, education and site development and has recently become a registered permaculture teacher.
